Zusammenfassung

Häufiger als in vielen anderen medizinischen Fachgebieten werden in der Neonatologie ärztliches und pflegerisches Personal, vor allem aber die Eltern mit ethischen Grenzfragen konfrontiert, etwa bei der Versorgung extrem unreifer, schwer fehlgebildeter, stark hirngeschädigter oder unvermeidlich sterbender Neugeborener. In diesem Kapitel wird versucht, philosophisch-ethische, religiös-christliche, und juristisch-historische Orientierungshilfen zu formulieren, welche die in jedem Einzelfall individuell und mit den Eltern zu erarbeitenden Möglichkeiten einer Behandlungsbegrenzung erleichtern sollen.
