Zusammenfassung

Nichtinvasive Hirnstimulationsverfahren wie beispielsweise die transkranielle Magnetstimulation und die transkranielle Gleichstromstimulation haben sich in zahlreichen Studien und einigen Metaanalysen als vielversprechende Behandlungsmöglichkeiten von depressiven Symptomen bei unipolarer und teilweise auch bipolarer Störung erwiesen. In diesem Kapitel gehen wir auf die theoretischen Grundlagen der verschiedenen Hirnstimulationsverfahren und auf die zugrunde liegenden pathophysiologischen Prozesse affektiver Erkrankungen ein. Zudem bieten wir eine Zusammenfassung der wichtigsten klinischen Studien zu diesem Thema und schlagen vor, wie man nichtinvasive Gehirnstimulationsverfahren in die klinische Praxis integrieren kann.
