Duplex sonography of the brain-supplying arteries

Abstract

The transtemporal examination of the cerebral arteries and the transnuchal assessment of the vertebrobasilar system by color coded duplex sonography are described. Moreover, B-mode imaging of the brain with measurement of the ventricle width is also explained and a short overview of the brain veins that can be sonographically derived is given. This is followed by information on the diagnostic criteria for assessing stenoses and occlusions of the intracranial vessels.
