Zusammenfassung

Pro Jahr werden in Deutschland etwa 2,8 Millionen Eingriffe viszeralchirurgischer Art durchgeführt. Der überwiegende Anteil entfällt hierbei auf kleine/wenig komplexe Eingriffe wie Hernien-Versorgungen, Appendektomien und Cholezystektomien. Die postoperative Krankenhaussterblichkeit aller viszeralchirurgischer Eingriffe beträgt etwa 1,9 %, wobei sich je nach durchgeführtem Eingriff deutliche Unterschiede ergeben. So liegt die Letalität komplexer Eingriffe bei über 5 %. Entscheidend für die Postoperative Letalität ist neben dem Auftreten von Komplikationen, sowohl operative als auch nicht operativer Art, die Möglichkeit diese korrekt zu behandeln. So sinkt die Letalität nach Komplikationen signifikant mit der Fallzahl je Krankenhaus.
