Zusammenfassung
Ziel der Diagnostik der Adipositas ist es, Hinweise für die Körperzusammensetzung hinsichtlich Art und Ausmaß zu erhalten. Erfasst werden können die Fettmasse, die fettfreie Masse (v. a. Muskulatur), das viszerale und subkutane Fett sowie das ektope Fett (z. B. Leber, Muskulatur, Herz). Für klinische Zwecke ist die Diagnostik einfach. Die Ätiologie der Adipositas ist komplex und vielschichtig. Neben genetischen Ursachen sind die Energieaufnahme, der Energieverbrauch, Essstörungen, Schlafmangel, Krankheiten sowie Pharmaka von Bedeutung. Ursachen der Adipositas können Hinweise für die Therapie liefern, wenngleich sich die Behandlung in der Regel an den Ressourcen des Betroffenen und den sozialen Umständen orientiert.
