Zusammenfassung
Die moderne Kataraktchirurgie ist sicher, standardisiert und liefert gute postoperative Ergebnisse. Trotzdem fallen dem selbstkritischen Ophthalmologen umfangreiche Bereiche des Innovationsbedarfs und Möglichkeiten zur Optimierung auf. Im Folgenden wird daher eine begrenzte Auswahl interessanter experimenteller Ansätze dargestellt, die die Kataraktchirurgie in Zukunft nachhaltig beeinflussen könnten – Themen wie Digitalisierung, künstliche Intelligenz, Robotik und innovative molekular- und zellbiologische Ansätze. Ein weiterhin wichtiger Innovationsbereich ist die Verbesserung der als Refraktionsausgleich implantierten IOL. Da sie als häufige Operation weltweit auch eine sozioökonomische Bedeutung hat, werden Projekte aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesundheitswesen ebenfalls angeschnitten.
