Zusammenfassung
Das Recycling von Materialien ist aus der Perspektive des Lebenszyklusmanagements von Produkten kein neuer, noch zu erforschender Bereich, sondern ist integraler Bestandteil jedes Konzepts zur Lebensweganalyse. Werden Materialien in einen Kreislauf zurückgeführt und weiter bzw. wieder genutzt oder in Rohstoffe aufgespalten, kann im Allgemeinen von Wertstoffen gesprochen werden. Oft wird im Zusammenhang mit Materialrecycling die Einbringung von Wertstoffen in einen erneuten Kreislauf betrachtet. Zumeist beginnt dieser im Sinne des Lebenszyklusmanagements zumiest nach der ersten Nutzung des Produkt.
