Zusammenfassung
Wissenschaftlich fundierte psychotherapeutische Interventionen zeichnen sich zum einen dadurch aus, dass zu ihrer Entwicklung systematisch theoretische Einbettung und empirische Befunde herangezogen werden und zum anderen, dass sie empirisch „auf den Prüfstand gestellt werden“, also systematische Evaluation dahingehend vorweisen können, ob sie überhaupt wirksam sind und auf welche Weise sie wirken. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden zentrale Aspekte der Psychotherapieforschung vorgestellt, die bei Entwicklung und Beurteilung therapeutischer Ansätze eine Rolle spielen (u. a. Wirksamkeit und Effektivität, Qualitätssicherung und Qualitätsentwicklung durch Einholen von Feedback, Wettstreit von Verfahren vs. differenzielle Indikation, Debatte um „empirically supported treatments“, Potenzial und Probleme von Metaanalysen, Wirkfaktoren und Wirkmechanismen, Bezug zu psychologischen und neurobiologischen Grundlagen). Innovation und Legitimation sollten im Bereich der Psychotherapie komplementär ergänzen, denn die Wirksamkeit (und Verträglichkeit) neuer Verfahren muss insbesondere dann abgesichert sein, wenn die theoretischen Grundlagen noch nicht auf allen Ebenen vollständig bekannt sind und bei der Entwicklung eher heuristisch vorgegangen wurde. Somit ist auch die Betrachtung von Misserfolgen unabdingbar – und kann Psychotherapeutinnen und Psychotherapeuten dabei helfen, als „scientist-practitioners“ ihr eigenes Handeln zu verbessern.
