Zusammenfassung
Bartonellaceae sind eine eigenständige Gattung hämatotroper gram-negativer Stäbchenbakterien. Kennzeichen sind eine lebenslange Infektion der menschlichen und tierischen Wirte sowie eine Verbreitung durch arthropodische Vektoren wie Flöhe, Zecken oder Stechfliegen. Es existieren sowohl primär den Menschen als Reservoir nutzende Spezies (B. bacilliformis und B. quintana) als auch sogenannte zoonotische Spezies, die vom tierischen Primärwirt „akzidentell“ auf den Menschen übertragen werden können.
