Zusammenfassung

Zwischen 6 und 12 Jahren eignet sich das Kind die grundlegenden Kulturtechniken an. Akademische Fähigkeiten und ein vielfältiges Wissen werden ihm besonders durch die Schule und andere Institutionen vermittelt. Die Beziehungen zu den Gleichaltrigen bekommen für das Schulkind eine immer größere Bedeutung, während es sich langsam von seinen Eltern abzulösen beginnt. In der Adoleszenz werden Entwicklung und Wachstum abgeschlossen. Zuvor macht der Organismus einen letzten Entwicklungsschub durch. Ein hormonell ausgelöster Reifungsprozess bewirkt einen Wachstumsspurt, einen Gestaltwandel und das Auftreten der sekundären Geschlechtsmerkmale. Die kognitiven Fähigkeiten erweitern sich um neue Denkkategorien. Im Bindungs- und Sozialverhalten findet ein tiefgreifender Umbruch statt. Dieses Kapitel beschreibt die wichtigsten Entwicklungsschritte und Wachstumsprozesse zwischen 6 und 18 Jahren.
