Zusammenfassung
Leukämien sind die häufigsten malignen Erkrankungen im Kindesalter. Sie sind durch die unkontrollierten, klonalen Proliferationen von Vorläuferzellen des hämatopoetischen Systems charakterisiert. Leukämien entstehen im Knochenmark und können sekundär extramedulläre Organe wie ZNS, Leber, Milz, Hoden, Ovarien u. a. infiltrieren. Das Spektrum der klinischen Initialsymptome kann außergewöhnlich breit sein. Auch bei Kindern, die bei Diagnosestellung praktisch asymptomatisch erscheinen und nur Blutbildveränderungen als Zufallsbefund aufweisen, kann sich eine schwere, vital bedrohliche Krankheitssymptomatik innerhalb von wenigen Stunden entwickeln.
