Zusammenfassung
Als portale Hypertension bezeichnet man die dauerhafte Steigerung des Blutdrucks in der Pfortader über den normalen Druck von 5–10 mmHg. Eine invasive Messung des Pfortaderdrucks erfolgt in der Regel nicht. Die Definition erfolgt von daher meist durch Beschreibung der Komplikationen, wie z. B. das Vorhandensein von Ösophagus- und Fundusvarizen. Häufigste Ursachen einer portalen Hypertension sind eine Leberzirrhose oder eine Pfortaderthrombose mit kavernöser Transformation.
