Zusammenfassung
Die quergestreifte Muskulatur beinhaltet die Skelett- und Herzmuskulatur. Der Skelettmuskulatur kommt primär eine übergeordnete Bedeutung bei allen lokomotorischen Leistungen des Menschen zu; die geordnete Kontraktion der Herzmuskulatur gewährleistet die Pumpfunktion des Herzens und somit die Regulation des Blutkreislaufs. Der menschliche Körper besitzt mehr als 600 verschiedene Muskeln, die in ihrer Gesamtheit etwa ein Drittel der Körpermasse ausmachen. Über die motorischen Aspekte hinaus kommt der Skelettmuskulatur eine wichtige Bedeutung bei der Wärmeregulation und Elektrolythomöostase und bei zentralen Stoffwechselprozessen zu. Die Kenntnis der Anatomie, Funktion und biochemischer Charakteristika der quergestreiften Muskulatur ist essenziell für das Verständnis der großen und für die ärztliche Praxis relevanten Gruppe angeborener und erworbener Erkrankungen der Herz- und Skelettmuskulatur.
