Zusammenfassung
Die Ernährung von Menschen mit Demenz stellt eine komplexe Herausforderung dar, weswegen ein Verständnis für eine angemessene Unterstützung ihrer Ernährungsbedürfnisse unerlässlich ist. Mit höherem Alter sowie im Rahmen einer Demenzerkrankung treten typische ernährungsbezogene Veränderungen und Herausforderungen auf. Ungewollter Gewichtsverlust, verringerte Nahrungsaufnahme und Schluckstörungen sind einige solcher Herausforderungen der Demenz. Jedoch existieren vermehrt evidenzbasierte Hinweise darauf, dass bestimmte gesundheitsfördernde und präventive Ernährungsmaßnahmen die kognitive Funktion verbessern, den Krankheitsverlauf verlangsamen und die Lebensqualität verbessern können. Frühes Engagement des betreuenden Umfelds ist wichtig, ebenso wie Unterstützung und Anleitung für pflegende Angehörige, um Menschen mit Demenz ein weitaus gutes Leben zu ermöglichen.
