Zusammenfassung

Die chronischen Arthritiden im Kindes- und Jugendalter werden unter dem Begriff juvenile idiopathische Arthritis (JIA) zusammengefasst. Definitionsgemäß wird ein Erkrankungsbeginn vor dem 16. Lebensjahr und eine Mindestdauer der Erkrankung von 6 Wochen gefordert. Die JIA ist kein einheitliches Krankheitsbild. Es werden verschiedene Subtypen differenziert. Man unterscheidet zwischen oligoartikulärem (bis zu 4 Gelenke betroffen) und polyartikulärem Verlauf (mehr als 4 Gelenke betroffen). Auch ein systemischer Befall ist möglich mit Beteiligung von Augen, Haut oder inneren Organen. Die einzelnen Krankheitsformen und ihre Unterschiede werden beschrieben, ebenso etablierte und neuere Therapieoptionen.
