Zusammenfassung
Die humanen T-lymphotropen Viren HTLV-1 und HTLV-2 repräsentieren die 2. Gruppe der beim Menschen vorkommenden exogenen Retroviren. Während HIV-1 und HIV-2 zu den Lentiviren zählen, gehören HTLV-1 und HTLV-2 zum Genus Delta-Retrovirus. HTLV-1 wurde 1981 in T-Zell-Linien entdeckt, die von Patienten mit adulter T-Zell-Leukämie etabliert worden waren. In analoger Weise wurde HTLV-2 in den Zellen eines seltenen Falles von T-Zell-Sezary-Syndrom gefunden; allerdings besteht zwischen HTLV-2 und dem Sezary-Syndrom kein ursächlicher Zusammenhang.
