Zusammenfassung
HIV-1 und HIV-2 gehören zum Genus Lentivirus in der Familie der Retroviren. Retroviren sind (+)Strang-RNA-Viren, deren RNA-Genom kurz nach Eintritt in die Zelle durch eine virale Polymerase, die reverse Transkriptase, in eine DNA-Kopie umgewandelt wird (BaltimoreSchema, 7 Kap. 51, . Abb. 51.4). Der »Fluss« der genetischen Information läuft bei diesen Viren also von RNA zu DNA, d. h. umgekehrt wie bei allen anderen Lebewesen, daher der Begriff »Retrovirus«. Das Genus Lentivirus umfasst eine Gruppe von Retroviren mit komplexem Genomaufbau, die bei Primaten, Pferden, Schafen, Ziegen, Rindern und Katzen vorkommen. Die beiden humanpathogenen Immundefizienz-Retroviren sind HIV-1 und HIV-2.
