Zusammenfassung

Da Viren keinen eigenen Stoffwechsel haben und deshalb strikt intrazelluläre Parasiten sind, müssen sie in Zellen eindringen, um dort ihre Bestandteile unter Ausnutzung der metabolischen Maschinerie der Zelle zu synthetisieren und neue Virusnachkommen »zusammenzubauen«. Diesen Vorgang bezeichnet man als Virusreplikation.
