Zusammenfassung
Wilhelm Carl Heraeus, Apotheker in Hanau, hatte, als er 1851 die väterliche Apotheke übernahm, Chemie und Pharmazie studiert und diversifizierte dank einer selbst gebauten Knallgas-Apparatur in die Metallurgie: ihm gelang es, Platin und später auch Rubidium und Caesium per Hochtemperatur-Schmelze in reinster Form zu liefern.
