Zusammenfassung
Anästhesistinnen und Anästhesisten haben sich schon früh mit Sicherheitsthemen in der Medizin beschäftigt. Daher ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass das Fachgebiet der Anästhesie in den letzten Jahrzehnten ganz erhebliche Fortschritte hinsichtlich der Vermeidung von anästhesiebedingten Todesfällen gemacht hat. Dennoch darf sich die Anästhesie nicht mit dem erreichten Sicherheitsstandard begnügen. Vielmehr muss die Sicherheit in den klassischen Kerngebieten der Anästhesiologie auf die gesamte Behandlungskette ausgedehnt werden, um das eigentlich Ziel zu erreichen: eine sichere Behandlung derjenigen Patientinnen und Patienten, die sich einer invasiven Therapie unterziehen müssen oder schwer erkrankt sind.
