Abstract

The paper presents a proposal to improve safety at unguarded level crossings, class C and D, by using an additional warning system in conditions of the current PKP railway infrastructure. In order to estimate reliability and safety of the proposed system, the authors carried out mathematical modeling based on stationary, homogeneous and ergodic Markov processes. They also carried out a hazard analysis and risk assessment using the FTA method, and calculated the MTBF coefficient using the Windchill Quality Solutions software.
