Abstract
The chapter deals with the development of a user-centered learning environment and its importance for the success of the project. From experience, in architectural planning, the focus is often on the building, the shell, and less on the user, the people and the organization. The building is often thought of from the outside in. As a result, the users and their requirements are only secondarily included. What does the space have to fulfill, how does it have to appear, so that the users feel comfortable and accept the space for themselves? The space does support the user with working and learning. Because the learning environment will continue to be a place of exchange and encounter in the future, even if the form of cooperation and communication changes.
The spaces need to be as multifunctional as possible and be able to easily adapt to new conditions. For this planning, it is necessary to deal with the topic of learning in the future. How will it change? What impact will this have on my future building? Who are the future stakeholders and how can I involve them in the planning process?
The planning of user requirements is illuminated, which is sometimes interpreted in very different ways and is still not a standardized process in architecture. Unfortunately, this consideration is often neglected in the planning phases of architecture.
What does requirements management mean, and how can a holistic consideration of requirements be implemented? What advantages does this bring, and what components are involved, always with a focus on people? Change management, i.e. as a support in the process, is also considered as a building block in this context. Of course, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic also play a role, as will the (new) generations of future students/new user groups that will come in the next few years. This has implications for the changing world of learning.
