Abstract

How will the Chinese economy develop in the future? The Chinese authoritarian economic system is currently proving successful and stable compared to some other systems. State-owned enterprises are regaining influence in the economy, consumption in China is rising, the e-commerce sector is flourishing, environmental policy has been seriously implemented in recent years and a turn towards renewable energies has been initiated in energy policy. The government debt and the enormous income disparities in society are problematic. On the other hand, the success of the Silk Road initiative has not yet been decided. So far, the Chinese economy has proven to be enormously resilient.
