Zusammenfassung
Als eine der frühesten dezidiert soziologischen Emotionstheorien kann sicher Theodore D. Kempers Social Interactional Theory of Emotions, erstmals publiziert 1978, bezeichnet werden. Kemper, der bis zu seiner Emeritierung an der St. John’s University in New York lehrte, gilt damit als einer der Pioniere der modernen Emotionssoziologie und hat bis heute eine der wenigen eigenständigen Emotionstheorien mit eindeutig soziologischem Erklärungsanspruch vorgelegt. Mit seiner Emotionstheorie, die er seit der Veröffentlichung laufend erweitert und spezifiziert hat, möchte Kemper vor allem die Frage beleuchten, welche Eigenschaften von sozialen Situationen und Interaktionen zur Entstehung von Emotionen beitragen.
