Zusammenfassung
Blockchain-basierte Technologien tragen das Potenzial zu einer selbstbestimmten und egalitären Teilhabe an gesellschaftlichen, ökonomischen, kulturellen und kommunikativen Prozessen in sich. Gleichzeitig bestimmen Berichte über Missbrauchsmöglichkeiten, Betrugsanfälligkeit (tatsächliche wie behauptete) negative Potenziale dieser neuen Technologien oft einseitig die öffentliche Wahrnehmung. Da eine verantwortungsvolle Nutzung positiver Potenziale voraussetzt, mögliche Gefahren zu erkennen, klar zu benennen und von fiktiven Bedrohungsszenarien zu unterscheiden, widmet sich dieser Beitrag einer strukturierten Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema (Cyber-)Kriminalität und Blockchain-basierte Technologien. Zunächst erfolgt eine Klärung von Grundbegriffen, die das Thema Blockchain besonders hinsichtlich möglicher Betrugsstrategien fassbar machen, sowie ein Überblick über ausgewählte Beispiele der relevanten Literatur. Eine Diskussion exemplarischer Fälle von (Cyber-)Kriminalität im Blockchain-Bereich ermöglicht eine Differenzierung zwischen realen (Betrugs-)Gefahren und fiktiven Angstszenarios und soll zu einer vorläufigen Kategorisierung von (Cyber-)Kriminalität im Blockchain-Umfeld beitragen. Schließlich zeigt ein Exkurs auf Non-Fungible Token (NFTs) in Metaversen und deren Einsatz zur Betrugsprävention, wie selbst Technologie-Aspekte, die besonders häufig negativ thematisiert werden, positiv genutzt werden können.
