Abstract
The second is 9,192,631,770 times the period of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of atoms of nucleide 133Cs. The time has the symbol t and the unit second [s]. The relative measurement uncertainty is 10−14. Because of this high measurement certainty, time is the decisive reference value for many measurement methods.
