Zusammenfassung
Der hier behandelte Aufsatz ist eine Gemeinschaftsarbeit von Bruce G. Carruthers mit dem 2018 verstorbenen Arthur L. Stinchcombe. Während Letzterer neben wirtschafts- vor allem organisationssoziologische Fragestellungen behandelte, hat sich Carruthers – bis heute – mit zentralen wirtschaftssoziologischen Themen, wie Netzwerken, Märkten oder Geld, befasst. Die Kernthese des hier vorgestellten Beitrages lautet: Der Akteur „Staat“ kann nicht nur andere finanzmarktliche Akteure enorm beeinflussen, sondern – durch Schaffung von Liquidität – selbst zum market maker werden. Gemäß der Autoren sind zwecks Herstellung eines liquiden Marktes drei Aspekte zentral: Erstens ein kontinuierlicher börslicher Auktionshandel zwischen informierten Käufern und Verkäufern, zweitens „Markt Macher“, wie z. B. der Staat, der Preise garantiert, Risiken auffängt und rechtliche Rahmenbedingungen institutionalisiert sowie drittens eine Homogenisierung von Waren, die ihrerseits darin besteht, beispielsweise Hypotheken als immaterielle Vermögensgegenstände physischen Produkten gleichzusetzen und sie dann zu standardisieren.
