Zusammenfassung
Wie sollen soziale Designansätze auf eine neue weltpolitische Situation reagieren, die von Postkosmopolitismus geprägt ist? Die These, dass Design postkosmopolitisch wird, beruht zum einen auf der Beobachtung der Wiederbelebung nationaler und ethnischer Grenzen im Alltag, die Unterschiede behaupten, aber sich ihnen kaum öffnen, und zum anderen auf der Hinwendung zu ‚zukunftsorientierten‘ Ansätzen auf Kosten des Verständnisses für kulturell vielfältige Lebensstile. Ein damit zusammenhängendes Problem ist die Tendenz, designte Dinge vor allem als Resultat der Absichten professioneller Designer*innen zu verstehen und weniger als Resultat der Aushandlung materieller Kulturen als solcher. In diesem Beitrag geht es nicht darum, kosmopolitisch und postkosmopolitisch designte Dinge bloß zu definieren, sondern konkret zu fragen, wie sie im Prozess ihrer Entstehung beschaffen sind, welche soziale Rolle sie spielen, welche Zeitlichkeit sie haben und wie sie sich auf Menschen und Orte beziehen.
