Grenzenlos mobil? Eine ethische Betrachtung unseres Verkehrs- und Mobilitätssystems

Zusammenfassung

Der Beitrag beleuchtet anhand der drei ethischen Leitlinien Gewährleistung von individueller Freiheit (1), Gerechtigkeit (2) sowie Umweltverträglichkeit und Ressourceneffizienz (3) unser Mobilitäts- und Verkehrssystem. Nach einer Einführung in die Problematik und der Definition zentraler Begrifflichkeiten zeigt der Beitrag die Herausforderungen auf mit denen eine mobile Gesellschaft konfrontiert ist. Der Beitrag dokumentiert dabei die Dilemmata zwischen individueller Bedürfnisbefriedigung und gesellschaftlichen Kosten. Abschließend wird kritisch diskutiert inwieweit individuelles ethisches Handeln zur Lösung verkehrs- wie gesellschaftspolitscher Probleme beitragen kann oder ob es vielmehr nationale oder gar supranationale Lösungen braucht.

Abstract

The essay highlights our mobility and transport system along the three ethical guidelines (1) securing individual freedom, (2) justice and equality and (3) environmental sustainability. After an introduction and critical discussion of central terms and definitions of transport and mobility the challenges of a mobile society are documented and the dilemmata between individual needs and their satisfaction on the one side and societal costs on the other side are illustrated. In a conclusion the question is raised, whether individual ethical behavior can be a solution of the societal problems of current transport and mobility or – much more – national and supranational measures will be necessary for an ethical transport system.
