Zusammenfassung
Frühe Bildung umfasst auch mathematische und naturwissenschaftliche Bildung. Beide Bildungsbereiche sind in den Bildungs- und Orientierungsplänen des Elementarbereichs, der die Bildungsinstitutionen für Kinder im Alter von null bis sechs Jahren umfasst, aufgeführt. Eine Reihe von Studien zeigt, dass jüngere Kinder lange vor dem Eintritt in die Schule an diesen Bereichen interessiert sind und bei geeigneter Förderung anschlussfähige Kompetenzen entwickeln können. Diese sind wiederum wichtig für das weitere schulische Lernen. Entscheidend für die Entwicklung mathematischer und naturwissenschaftlicher Kompetenzen ist die Qualität der Lerngelegenheiten. Hier deuten die Befunde auf eher niedrige Ausprägungen der bereichsspezifischen Prozessqualität. Erklärbar sind diese Befunde unter anderem durch die fehlenden professionellen Kompetenzen von Fachkräften in diesen beiden Bildungsbereichen.
