Zusammenfassung

Eine der größten Herausforderungen der heutigen Arbeitswelt ist die stets zunehmende Häufigkeit und Intensität interkultureller Begegnungen. Während früher die Zusammenarbeit mit Menschen aus anderen Kulturen fast ausschließlich ein Thema für entsandte Mitarbeiter war, führen aktuelle politische, wirtschaftliche und technologische Entwicklungen dazu, dass heute fast jeder Arbeitnehmer mit interkulturellen Situationen konfrontiert wird. Dies kann in der Zusammenarbeit mit zunehmend kulturell gemischten Kollegen am eigenen Standort sein, bei virtueller Zusammenarbeit mit Kollegen aus geografisch gestreuten Standorten, bei der Inanspruchnahme outgesourcter Dienstleistungen, dem Verkauf der eigenen Produkte ins Ausland oder im zunehmenden internationalen Projektgeschäft, das v. a. kürzere Auslandsaufenthalte mit sich bringt. Parallel zu diesen Entwicklungen ist in der Wissenschaft und Praxis das Interesse an der Frage gewachsen, was Menschen, die interkulturelle Situationen erfolgreich meistern, von solchen unterscheidet, die weniger erfolgreich sind – was also die interkulturelle Kompetenz ausmacht. Im folgenden Beitrag sollen die zentralen Konzepte der vielfältig diskutierten interkulturellen Kompetenz dargestellt werden, und es wird aufgezeigt, wie interkulturelle Kompetenzen in einem Unternehmen erworben und gefördert werden können.
