Zusammenfassung
Der Text gibt einen Überblick über die US-amerikanischen phänomenologisch-pädagogischen Diskurse der 70er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er orientiert sich an einem von David E. Denton herausgegebenen Sammelband mit dem Titel „Existentialism and Phenomenology in Education“ (Denton 1974). Dabei weist Lippitz neben vielen Gemeinsamkeiten zur europäischen phänomenologischen Pädagogik auf drei Besonderheiten hin. Zum einen gibt es im US-amerikanischen Diskurs eine Fokussierung auf die existenzialistische Perspektive. Zum anderen sind die amerikanischen Zugänge stark pragmatisch ausgerichtet, indem sie auf handfertige Nachvollziehbarkeit und Anwendung abstellen. Schließlich wird phänomenologisches Denken und phänomenologische Erfahrung personalisiert, das heißt an konkreten Beispielen adressatenorientiert dargestellt. Lippitz beginnt seinen Überblick mit der kritischen Diskussion von Dentons existenzialistischem Zugang. Danach wird Maxine Greenes Bestseller „Teacher as a Stranger“ diskutiert. Vandenbergs Systementwurf wird sodann ausführlich dargestellt. Dessen hermeneutischer Ansatz wird in die geisteswissenschaftliche Theorietradition eingeordnet. Abschließend fasst Lippitz die Merkmale der US-amerikanischen 70er Jahre-Diskussion in der phänomenologischen Pädagogik prägnant in acht Punkten zusammen.
