Zusammenfassung

Welche theoretischen Paradigmen und konkreten Ansätze geeignet sind, sozialen Wandel gehaltvoll zu erklären, ist eine Frage, die die Sozialwissenschaften seit ihrer Gründungsphase Mitte/Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts begleitet. Für die frühe Debatte Ende des 19., Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts ist etwa an Theorievorschläge zur Entstehung und Dynamik des Kapitalismus und der modernen Gesellschaft von Karl Marx, Émile Durkheim und Max Weber zu erinnern.
