Abstract
In the US and spreading globally, heart disease, stroke, and cancer account for 50 percent of deaths, while obesity, pre-diabetes and diabetes are reaching epidemic levels of prevalence. Not only are lifestyle-related diseases bringing early disease and death, US healthcare costs associated with lifestyle-related chronic diseases are estimated as 75 percent of total costs (CDC, 2013) and growing rapidly with an aging population engaged in unhealthy lifestyles (Moore & Jackson, 2013, in press).
