Abstract
To remind ourselves of discussions of the ‘peace dividend’, so prevalent at the end of the Cold War, is to provoke wry smiles on the faces of soldiers and politicians alike. The present generation of soldiers, sailors and airmen has more operational experience than anybody under the age of 90, and arguably a broader experience of the spectrum of conflict than anybody alive.
