Zusammenfassung

Bipolare Störungen sind durch Hochs und Tiefs in der Stimmung und im Antrieb gekennzeichnet. Ihre Häufigkeit wird auf 1 bis 5 Prozent geschätzt, je nachdem, ob man leichtere Verlaufsformen ebenfalls mitzählt. Kognitive Verhaltenstherapie (KVT) kann Betroffenen und ihren Bezugspersonen helfen, ein besseres Selbstmanagement ihrer Erkrankung aufzubauen, Rezidive in ihrer Häufigkeit und Dauer zu reduzieren und insgesamt wieder mehr Lebensqualität zu erfahren. KVT ist zwar auch bei bipolaren Depressionen indiziert, das Kapitel fokussiert aber bewusst auf KVT als Rezidivprophylaxe, da die psychotherapeutische Behandlung unipolarer und bipolarer Depressionen sich nicht grundlegend unterscheidet. Die Ziele und wesentlichen Strategien einer rezidivprophylaktisch orientierten KVT werden dargestellt, und es wird kurz darauf eingegangen, was aus psychotherapeutischer Sicht indiziert ist, wenn Betroffene manisch werden. Auch die Empirie zur Psychotherapie bipolarer Störungen wird skizziert.
