Zusammenfassung

Bei der Hepatitis handelt es sich um eine infektiöse Entzündung der Leber. Weltweit haben mehr als 2 Milliarden Menschen einen serologischen Hinweis auf eine aktuelle oder stattgehabte Infektion mit dem Hepatitis-B-Virus (HBV). Bei der chronischen Infektion sind in der Regel hohe Virusmengen und das virale Oberflächenprotein Hepatitis-B-Surface-Antigen (HBsAg) im Serum betroffener Patienten nachweisbar. Die Infektion mit dem Hepatitis-B-Virus kann beim Menschen zu einem akuten, im Erwachsenenalter meist selbst limitierenden Verlauf führen oder chronisch werden. Dann kann es zu Leberentzündungen mit dem Risiko der Entwicklung einer Leberzirrhose und von Leberzellkrebs kommen. Zur Behandlung der chronischen Hepatitis-B-Virusinfektion stehen die Medikamentenklassen Alpha-Interferone und Nukleosid- bzw. Nukleotidanaloga zur Verfügung.
