Zusammenfassung

Bei der mechanischen Ventilation wird maschinell entweder ein positiver Druck erzeugt und als Positivdruckbeatmung („positive pressure ventilation“, PPV) auf die Atemwege appliziert, oder es wird in Gestalt der Negativdruckbeatmung („negative pressure ventilation“, NPV) maschinell von außen am Körper ein Unterdruck erzeugt. Beide Formen der mechanischen Beeinflussung dienen dem Ziel, durch periodische Anwendung eine inspiratorische Ausdehnung der Lunge zu erreichen. Die Positivdruckbeatmung kann invasiv mittels Trachealtubus oder Tracheostoma oder nichtinvasiv mittels einer Maske angewendet werden.
