Zusammenfassung
Krebs ist nach Unfällen die häufigste Todesursache von Kindern jenseits des 1. Lebensjahres. Gegenüber Krebskrankheiten im Erwachsenenalter bestehen erhebliche Unterschiede hinsichtlich Art, Häufigkeit, Behandlungskonzepten und Prognose. Bei Kindern treten vor allem akute Leukämien (akute lymphoblastische Leukämie, ALL; akute myeloische Leukämie, AML), Hirntumoren und Sarkome auf, während im Erwachsenenalter Karzinome und chronische Leukämien das Bild beherrschen. Die Epidemiologie der einzelnen Krankheiten in Deutschland ist heute gut bekannt, nicht zuletzt, weil diese von den pädiatrischen Onkologen seit 1980 an das Deutsche Kinderkrebsregister in Mainz gemeldet und dort inzwischen mehr als 95 % aller Erkrankungsfälle erfasst werden.
