Abstract

A brief introduction is given about the diagnostic role of angiography, which, at present, is significantly limited compared to noninvasive techniques such as color Doppler ultrasound, multidetector CT angiography, and magnetic resonance angiography. Then, a focus will be directed on the technical aspects of diagnostic angiography, discussing materials and imaging parameters, and subsequently the technical aspects of interventional vascular procedures, focusing also on new procedures such as renal denervation. Anatomy is then reviewed as is apparent on angiographic studies.

The rest of the chapter describes angiographic appearance and interventional management of the pathologies of the kidney amenable to an endovascular approach, starting with occlusive vascular disease due to atherosclerosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, or other causes. Then, less common vascular conditions are discussed, such as renal ischemia, aneurysms, A-V fistulas, trauma, and complications of transplant surgery.

The final part of the chapter concentrates on renal neoplasm, both benign and malignant, with special emphasis on the endovascular management by means of the different techniques of embolization.
