Abstract

Facial fat grafting has been largely limited to the subcutaneous plane with vague reference to injecting into the muscular planes. The FAMI™ technique described herein specifically targets tissue planes and the individual muscles of facial expression to engraft adipose tissue and the mesenchymal cells within lipoaspirates. Graft survival, predictability, and symmetry are greatly enhanced by targeting the rich vascular bed of the muscles of facial expression. Augmenting regressed bony surfaces with subperiosteal injections as well as the deep and subcutaneous fat pads leads to a more natural restoration of youthful contours and volumes.
