Zusammenfassung

Als funktionell werden Beschwerden bezeichnet, denen keine erkennbare organische oder biochemische Veränderung zugrunde liegt. Diese Definition wird zunehmend in Frage gestellt, da sich durch verfeinerte Untersuchungstechniken bei einigen Patienten doch minimale Veränderungen nachweisen lassen (z. B. minimale mukosale Inflammation, viszerale Hypersensitivität).
