Zusammenfassung
Die Speiseröhre hat im Wesentlichen die Funktion, Speichel, Speisen und Getränke nach dem Schlucken durch eine gerichtete Peristaltik aus dem Mund in den Magen zu befördern und einen Reflux von Mageninhalt zu verhindern. Eine Verdauungsfunktion kommt ihr im Gegensatz zu den nachgeschalteten Abschnitten nicht zur. Bei den Erkrankungen des Ösophagus stehen daher auch Motilitätsstörungen und ihre Folgen ganz im Vordergrund. Motilitätsstörungen können primär sein oder Ausdruck einer Grundkrankheit wie z. B. einer korrigierten Ösophagusatresie oder einer Entzündung der Speiseröhre. Bei sekundären Motilitätsstörungen, z. B. Regurgitationen als Folge einer Kuhmilcheiweißallergie, sollte zunächst versucht werden, die Ursache therapeutisch zu beeinflussen (in diesem Fall: Elimination von Kuhmilcheiweiß), ehe eine symptomatische, z. B. prokinetische oder säuresuppressive Therapie begonnen wird. Primäre Infektionen und Tumoren der Speiseröhre sind sehr seltene Erkrankungen im Kindesalter.
