Zusammenfassung

Komplementärmedizinische Therapieverfahren werden von einem Großteil der Patienten mit einer Tumorerkrankung ergänzend zu ihrer konventionellen Therapie in Anspruch genommen mit dem Ziel, hierdurch die Lebensqualität und die Verträglichkeit der Behandlung zu verbessern und möglichst auch Einfluss auf den Krankheitsverlauf nehmen zu können. Zu den verwendeten komplementärmedizinischen Verfahren gehören u. a. Ernährung und Substitution von Mikronährstoffen, Sport und Bewegung, Pflanzenheilkunde, Akupunktur, und Verfahren der sog. Mind-Body-Medizin. Während die Bedeutung von Ernährung und Bewegung im Zusammenhang mit einer Tumorerkrankung in der Medizin allgemein anerkannt ist, wird die Einnahme von Vitaminen und Spurenelementen durchaus kontrovers diskutiert. Die Forschung fokussiert sich zunehmend auch auf komplementärmedizinische Fragestellungen, was dazu geführt hat, dass zu einzelnen phytotherapeutischen Extrakten, Akupunkturanwendungen sowie auch Therapieverfahren der Mind-Body-Medizin heute bereits Aussagen zur möglichen Wirksamkeit im Zusammenhang mit der Behandlung von Patienten mit einer Tumorerkrankung möglich sind.
