Abstract

Kidney transplantation remains by far the preferred modality of renal replacement therapy in children and adults with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In children, realization of this modality can come with special challenges, both because of their small size and because of their unique underlying ESRD etiologies, which frequently are congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT). This chapter describes useful and individualized approaches to kidney transplantation in these children, both from a urological and surgical and from a medical perspective.
