Abstract

The term melanocytic nevus with phenotypic heterogeneity (MNPH), as originally introduced in the first edition of this monograph, connotes both qualitatively and quantitatively the wide range of neurocristic phenotypic differentiation which may be observed in melanocytic neoplasms [1]. Thus, MNPH is a generic term used to describe two or more distinct nevus cellular elements, or lines of neural crest differentiation, in a single melanocytic nevus, as, e.g., MNPH with components of compound dysplastic nevus and common blue nevus or MNPH with congenital-nevus component and sclerosing spindle cell component with Schwannian differentiation.
