Abstract
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery is common and clinical outcomes are typically good. However, a minority of patients develop recurrent instability, necessitating revision surgery.
Successful revision ACL reconstruction requires a thorough history and physical examination along with a careful review of imaging studies in order to determine the etiology of failure and identify appropriate surgical candidates. Once the decision to proceed with revision ACL reconstruction is made, a meticulous preoperative plan that takes into consideration graft selection, tunnel placement, residual hardware, bone stock, alignment, and skin integrity is critical. In this manner, outcomes after revision ACL reconstruction can be optimized.
