Abstract

In wireless networks, stations need to share the limited bandwidth of the wireless channel with each other, inevitably leading to packets collisions. To enhance DCF, we propose a new collision avoidance method based on information sharing list. During the RTS/CTS exchange, the backoff value piggybacked in CTS (new CTS) frame will be broadcasted to other stations, stored in their lists in order to avoid the re-use of the same values in next backoff stage. The results show that the improved CA mechanism can acquire better performance in throughput and delay than legacy DCF as the network load stabilizes.
