Abstract
This paper studies and analyses the main reasons for the propagation of tweets on Chinese MicroBlog network. We collected a large dataset from SinaWeibo API and present an in-depth analyse on data we’ve got. We studied the distribution of the number of retweets for one tweet. We define the popular tweet as the tweet retweeted for more than 500 times. Then we investigated the influence of the top 2000 popular tweets’ authors. Finally we focused on the contents of popular tweets. We make several interesting observation. First, the distribution of the number of retweets for one tweet is a non-power-law distribution indicating that only very small number of tweets can be retweeted for thousands of times. Second, the retweeting action does not correlate to the author’s influence directly. The influential’s tweets are not absolutely retweeted for more times. Third, the mention, the image and the url link are the main factors for tweets’ spreading, especially the mention. We believe that these findings can help us to correct some fallacies about Chinese MicroBlog network.
