Mount Sanqingshan National Park

Abstract

Located west of the Huaiyu Mountain Range in the northeast portion of Jiangxi Province, Mount Sanqingshan National Park displays a unique array of forested and whimsically shaped Cretaceous granite pillars. The mountain range extends in a NE-SW direction and is covered by luxuriant vegetation. The triangular pattern apparent on the image indicates that the mountain body is cut by three major fracture zones, namely, the Fenglin-Zihu Fracture Zone oriented in a NE-SW direction, the Xiaokeng-Plantain Dock Fracture Zone oriented in a NNE-SSW direction, and the Egongling-Xiaxikeng Fracture Zone oriented in a NW-SE direction, thus forming a triangular fault block. Mount Sanqingshan derives its name from three peaks likened to the Three Pure Ones (three highest Taoist deities) in the scriptures of Taoism.
